Another Facebook-induced - isn’t it a small world! - episode: A couple of hours ago I re-posted a picture of myself and two young adorable krama sellers at the Sambor Prei Kuk complex of temples in Kompong Thom from October 2007. Minutes later I was given the name of one of the girls, who is called March, and who now lives in Japan. She was 10 years old at the time of the picture, she’s the girl holding the bag and lived in a village close to the temples. After graduating from high school, she received a scholarship to study in Japan and has been living there for more than five years. She’s currently working for a school with responsibility for their international students from Cambodia. The other girl is called Srey Ya and she now lives and works in Phnom Penh. She’s the same age as March and both were living in the nearby Sambor village. I’ve spoken to both of them today via Facebook and they were happy for me to recall our brief meeting fifteen years ago in front of the temple of Prasat Chrei, famous for its tree roots engulfing the structure. I’m really pleased that both are doing well and the power of Facebook in Cambodia is alive and well!
