WEST MEBON TEMPLE 🇰🇭 “ ប្រាសាទមេបុណ្យខាងលិច-Prasat Mebon Khang Lech”
West Mebon Temple is an ancient Khmer temple located on a hill in the middle of the Western Baray in Siem Reap. This temple was built during the middle of the 11th century AD during the reign of King Udayadityavarman II to dedicate to his ancestors in the 11th century.
This West Mebon Temple is unique in that the temple structure consists of a single wall made of sandstone and surrounded by a large pond dug in the ground. The eastern ramparts were designed as galleries, with moderately large windows separated by a number of gopuras. Three are one in the middle and two at the other end of the gallery. In the center of the inner pond is a sandstone structure shaped like a well with a diameter of about three meters. According to the records of the Chinese ambassador Chiv Ta Kwan, who arrived in Angkor in the late 13th century, the Kandal Baray temple This one has a large statue or Vishnu that sinks to the navel during the rainy season, as excavated in 1939. One of the statues found in the sleeping posture was Vishnu.
